How was Guatemala, part 4: the library

How was Guatemala, part 4: the library

Imagine a school without a library. Imagine your world without a library. Imagine your children or grandchildren have never been able to check out a book, take it home and read it. This past June, my sister-in-law Karen, a reading teacher, my youngest son John and I went to Guatemala for 2 weeks. For Karen and me, the primary purpose of our trip was to attend an immersion Spanish language school, but our secondary goal was to begin a library at our school in Chimal. The majority of the library books were in Spanish which we bought in Guatemala with the help of Pastor Erika, the head of school and some of the students. We also took with us early English readers because our students are learning English! John spent his two weeks helping kids at school who are struggling with math. How can you help? You can contribute toward the ongoing purchase of the books, computers and educational games on this website under the designation library fund. Lynn
